Lesley I so agree

Had I been in at the outset I would have insisted on a lawyer drafted
contract. Until the shit hit I assumed they had one. My knowledge of the
individuals concerned leads me to think that :
a) this was the biggest thing they'd ever done so enthusiasm won over common
sense
b) they have personal 'friendships' at senior level and were probably
emotionally blackmailed into believing a contract would not be necessary

c) they only use lawyers to fight rearguard actions
d)they control costs in the weirdest ways so they probably considered
lawyers' fees as an unecessary expense

Legal money spent upfront is insurance; it costs far less paying before the
eevnt than after

I've run out of sympathy. I offered to cut my retainer in half for a few
months as part of a plan to cut costs and so save at least one job. They
took my offer up but fired everyone anyway (but strangely we're still
arguing about whether the now empty overflow office should go).

I give up - Monday I blamed the client, today I blame the management

Life goes on

Lois

as it can avoid all horrible things in the future.

why didn't your client negotiate an out clause?'
