Subject: UKNM: Sky TV discussion programme
From: David Lee
Date: Fri, 7 May 1999 16:35:52 +0100

Hello all

I'm getting in touch on the recommendation of one Alice Taylor, to see if
anyone at UK Net Marketing would like to appear as a guest on a SKY tv
discussion
programme next Tuesday. (Alice is a veteran of the show).

We'll be speculating wildly on the effects of an internet-saturated world
on tomorrow's society, and it would be great to hear the views of insiders
like yourselves.

Here are some more details on the programme - do get in touch if you're
interested.

The Programme:
'Dots and Queries' is a weekly half-hour discussion show which aims to
cover topical issues in new technology in a way that is easily
comprehensible to the viewer at home. It has an informal and relaxed
atmosphere and panellists are encouraged to trade ideas and opinions
freely.

The Topic:
'How will the internet affect tomorrow's society?'
Obviously a potentially broad-ranging topic, ripe for speculation and
hypothesis, but some possible areas to cover:
- Should we expect a boom in net usage that will change the way we live?
Will online shopping replace the high street?
- When streaming comes to fruition, will TV-style entertainment come
primarily through the net?
- Will schools in the future disappear to be replaced by internet access
points in students' homes, linked to teachers and material online.
- In world terms will the globalising effect of net communication have a
wider impact on international relationships and politics?
- Could the net in fact become a source of unrest in society as new
information elites and subclasses develop, or as people rebel against its
pervasiveness?

Other Guests:

John Murphy, freelance journalist for, amongst other publications, The
Times.
Richard Adams, Head of Digital Art at the London College of Music and
Media.
Someone from The Hub.

The programme will be recorded 'as live' on Tuesday 11th May between 2.00pm
and 3.00pm at our studio in Acton, West London. It will subsequently be
aired on Sky's [.tv] channel between 7.30 and 8.00pm on Monday 31st May.

We can talk transport subsequently but in the meantime here's our address:
8 Canham Mews
Canham Rd
London W3 7SR
[& for details of how to reach us please refer

I hope this gives you all the information you need. Please get in touch if
you need to know anything else, and I hope we'll have a guest from Ivision
on Tuesday.

Yours

David
