Exactly.

The ego of the designer / technical lead is having less and sway on an
increasingly savvy audience. The original thrill of having flash on a site
has worn off - people want to do thing, learn things, talk to others the way
they want to. If you don't provide that then they will vote with their mice.

If you want to loose customers feel free to add a flash splash page to your
site - it's you money you're burning.

As a foot note:

It does include one of the best Flash only shopping sites I've ever seen
(see it's a fine line) www.barneys.com which is not online yet but soon
will be. The navigation system is fun - I'd be interested to see if it can
stand heavy use.
