As the second lurker to come off the fence today, I shall keep it brief:

IMHO, the elitism and hyprocrisy which have surfaced over the past few days
in response to Sam's sponsorship initiative is truly bizarre. Most
companies and individuals on the list depend to a large extent upon
corporate advertising, marketing and sponsorship money for their living,
and yet they sniff at the merest hint of the commercialisation of their own
environment.

Relating this back to the VC thread, several people have had a good moan
(not without justification) about conservative British attitudes towards
financing. Well, it seems to me that the negative responses to the UNNM
sponsorship deal fall into much the same category: insular, (somewhat)
hypocritical and elitist British idiosyncracy.

What's good for the goose ....

Note: this is not aimed at any correspondent in particular, so please don't
take offence.

think of all subscribers as stakeholders in the list and I hope you approve
of the very light sponsorship of the list. I do find it a bit strange that
you'd think sponsorship would affect the editorial stance on the list i.e.
super-minimal. Does this mean when NMA sponsor their chats every Fri, you
expect the guests to tell you how great NMA is, and agree strongly with
everything Mike and the crazy gang at NMA say? Don't think so.

given the industry we all work in. You'll be pleased to hear that the
sponsorship will be ploughed back into development of the list service.
Keep your ears to the ground.
