Pinging for variable soundtrack?

Hi people,


I've come up with the idea to incorporate a background soundtrack in a piece

of Flash. However, since the music is not a must (more some sort of extra

pigment to the overall feeling) I would like to offer the music only to

those people with a fast connection.

I thought about pinging the client during the initial loading, and depending

on the speed of the ping decide to play the music yes or no (or perhaps play

at a different quality, or longer segments for looping etc). Problem is:

this all sounds quite nice in theory, however I have no clue how this could

be accomplished. Any thoughts and tips are welcome.
