I hadn't previously commented on Alan's work but here's what I think. As an
information interface for web viewing, the piece doesn't quite work (but
there is a lot that could be done to make it work).

Regarding viewers and how willing they should or shouldn't be to wait ... I
believe that an audience who is looking for artwork is more willing to wait
for a longer download. But an audience who is looking for information is
going to become frustrated at anything that holds them up for so long.
Alan's interface's function is to present financial information, so his
viewers are likely to be in a more impatient mindset. That's just the way
it is.

A web based information interface needs to present some of the info fairly
quickly or you are going to lose people. If Alan would create a looping
wait for frame that loops just long enough to load a "pre" movie which
would entertain the viewers or give them part of what they are looking for
while the rest loads, that would go far to resolve the problem. Another
option would be to ditch the opening screen and hop right into the guts of
the movie .... or trim the opening scene down a bit. Or maybe a combination
of both.
