As you know frame rate in Flash is cpu dependent, so trying to sync song

with lyrics is a job Penelope would gladly take on.

My own experience tells me of three answers, one is in Flash the other

two are not. The one I recommend is the third but your mileage may vary

depending on the projects reqs.

Answer 1 - You have the sound on a layer by it's own. Subdivide the

lyrics in units, these could be words or phrases or other type of units

and should be directly tied into the music. Create a movie clip where

each keyframe holds a lyric unit and do whatever transition you want

between keyframes. Locate the starting points for each lyric unit and

place a tell target on the sound layer or on a separate action layer

that commands the lyric movie clip to goto the proper lyric unit.

Answer 2 - Use QuickTime4. I won't go into much detail here because I

have not experimented enough with this type of solution. First

impressions work but they do consume a lot of time in getting it just

right.

Answer 3 - Similar to 1 in that you have a movie clip for the lyrics

built the same way. Get the song in midi format and use metaevents to

signal the lyric unit start points. Use Beatnik to trigger the Flash

movie clip of the lyrics via a metaevent handler that passes telltarget

to the Flash movie. This is my recommended solution because it takes

about the same amount of work as 1 and the sound quality is much better,

plus you gain a lightweight way to add other types of sonification to

your Flash movie.
