from said site:

"Right, the first step on the road to V2000 is simple: tell us your
name and email address, and the names and email addresses of up to 3
friends you'd like to take with you. We'll email them to tell them
how much you like them..."

you must like your friends to want to spam them (spam: unsolicited
commercial email). they must love you to put up with it. and i'm
intrigued - did syzygy do this site (in which case syzygy would suck
audibly in terms of their consideration to netiquette), and if so is
this post in itself spam (or is this now an "unfocused" list)?

nice thought though, just curious as to motive.
