To be fair to the Virgin Mobile team, and the other Virgin Companies that
had a denial of service, it looks as if the servers chez Virgin were shut
down over the Y2K period as a precautionary measure.

A stupid thing to do retrospectively, but I'm sure someone at Virgin
Management IT had a very good reason to make that decision, and I doubt it
made him/her very popular with the Virgin Group companies, but there you go
. . .
