Rayan Goutay, Regulatory Consultant, Goldman Sachs

Graduated in International Law from Pantheon Sorbonne Paris 1 University in 2002, Rayan's law career started at an ISDA master agreements specialist at Deutsche Bank where he learned how the financial market leaders auto-regulate themselves via the ISDA association and make the Lex Mercatoria for financial derivatives with secretive over the counter contracts carrying a huge systemic risk to the global economy.

After many years at Bank of New York in London implementing compliance projects, Rayan move on to become a recognised independant regulatory and strategy consultant.

He has extensive experience advising well-known financial institutions (BNP Paribas, Standard Chartered Bank, Goldman Sachs) and the UK Financial Conduct Authority on new European and US regulations.

Regularly speaking to the Regulators, Financial Industry & business leaders about the pressing need to re-invent operating procedures and business practices as a result of the connected economy, Rayan also encourages them to sometimes park policies and procedures in order to think outside the box and develop new strategic initiatives in line with new technologies. For him the bank of tomorrow will be a technology company.

Rayan always has an eye on new trends that could determine the future of the industry and as such has been following the rise of cryptocurrencies and the blockchain technology. He has been researching and advising on the disruptive impact this new data structure will have on the global economy and how governments and regulators can handle what is already called the Lex Cryptographia.
