Bringing Home the Gongs: Shorty Awards, Tech Startup 100, NMA Effectiveness, Best Awards

Awards Dinner Lighting - Vodafone001 by Rob Sayer

I'm not sure if there's an awards season per-se for the digital world, but they seem to be cropping up thick and fast at the moment.

And who doesn't like a shiny gong to add to their awards cabinet? Below are details of four sets of awards from the digital, marketing, content and start-up worlds. In their own words, here you go:

Shorty Awards

Social media allows individuals to make a meaningful impact in their communities by inspiring people, cultivating optimism and creating opportunity within their communities.

The Connecting People Shorty Award created in partnership with Nokia will be given to a person who is genuinely bringing people together through Twitter and social media.

Nominees will be judged based on the impact they’ve had on their communities and the creative ways they’ve used the social web to connect people.

You can nominate yourself or someone else who you think is worthy of being recognized as a great connector.

Nominations in this category close on February 18, 2011.

Telegraph Tech Start-up 100

The Telegraph is working with a panel of expert judges to create the most authoritative and trustworthy list of promising technology start-ups in Europe

Early next year, The Telegraph will release its first Tech Start-Up 100, our attempt to create the most reliable, authoritative and trustworthy guide to exciting young tech firms throughout the continent.

We think the key to success and credibility in a project like this is the quality of the judging panel. We don't want to fill the panel with the usual, media-friendly suspects (just like we don't want our start-up list to consist of the same old faces). Instead, we're assembling a world-class roster of industry experts - serial entrepreneurs, investors and others - who we believe have the knowledge and experience to separate high-growth, high-value start-ups from the ones who make all the noise.

Deadline was officially 4th Feb, but if you're quick, you might just find that the entry form is still available.

NMA Effectiveness Awards 2011

Since the Awards were launched in 1997, 296 trophies have been presented across 54 categories. And each award has recognised how interactive media has been used to deliver tangible business benefits to an organisation.

That’s what these Awards are about - effectiveness. They take into account the insight and creativity involved in great work, but at heart they ask four simple questions: what were your objectives, what did you do to try and achieve those objectives, how much did you spend, and what were the results. And because they’re judged on effectiveness, the Awards allow small companies to compete with their larger competitors on the same footing.
