Chinwag's Old Blog: 'The Friday Thing' team venture offline

Paid-for online content is all the rage these days, following hot(ish) on the heels of the FT, The Times and The Independent have both launched sections which you'll have to cough up to view.

Pre-dating this crowd of established publishers is The Friday Thing, a weekly email 'comment sheet' created by Paul Carr and Charlie Skelton. Are they any good? They think so...and have plenty of plaudits to back them up. With 45,000 subscribers, they're clearly doing something right.

Hanging Day, the company behind The Friday Thing are planning their first print launch in August 2003, with The London News Review. With an initial print run of 40,000 apparently it'll keep readers informed by 'any means necessary' and 'Like a trigger-happy US Marine, LNR will take no prisoners in its coverage of domestic and international events.' Interesting.

Building on the success of their pay-to-access model pioneered with The Friday Thing, The London News Review will also have a version available through the web.
