Shout Out to the Second Wave of Psych Speakers
Chinwag Psych (@ChinwagPsych) is coming to London on Thursday May 9th.
It is a conference and online publication covering psychology, neuroscience and machine learning for business and marketing.
We have some super special speakers to share with you Leigh Caldwell, William Higham, David Stillwell and Benjamin Ellis.

Dr. David Stillwell
David is Research Manager at The Psychometrics Centre, University of Cambridge and creator of myPersonality.
While researching for his PhD in cognitive decision-making, David created a Facebook application called myPersonality that provides real psychological questionnaires and gives users feedback on their results. This startup’s aim is to improve marketing by adding an understanding of the personality of customers.
As a Research Associate at the Psychometrics Centre David currently collaborates with researchers in different disciplines to mine the myPersonality database for interesting research findings, one of which is the machine learning group at Microsoft Research.
William Higham
William is founder and CEO of consumer trends research consultancy Next Big Thing. He writes and presents on trends, creates consumer strategy reports and facilitates strategic marketing and innovation workshops.
Next Big Thing’s clients have come from a wide range of industries: from media (News International to BBC), music (EMI to MTV) and finance (NatWest to HSBC) to technology (AOL to Siemens), advertising (Ogilvy to WPP) and drinks (Budweiser to Diageo).
William wrote the UK’s first handbook for consumer trend forecasters: ‘The Next Big Thing: Spotting & Forecasting Consumer Trends For Profit’ (Kogan Page, 2009), which has been translated into four languages.
Benjamin Ellis
Benjamin is a Social technologist and serial entrepreneur.
Benjamin has worked in the on-line world since the mid 1980′s. He has worked with companies including Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks in Silicon Valley, and on projects with Microsoft, IBM and Motorola.
Benjamin is mainly known for his roles at Redcatco and SocialOptic, and his support for start ups and growing UK digital businesses – predominately though the Digital Mission with Chinwag and the UKTI. He makes the occasional appearance on Radio and TV, explaining the way that technology is changing the how businesses work, and also contributes to a number of blogs and print publications.
Martin Talks
Martin is a serial entrepreneur who has floated a shares company on the London Stock Exchange and recently sold his agency Blue Barracuda to Draftfcb.
He is now Global Digital Lead for the Draftfcb Group of companies and on the Advisory Board to their Institute of Decision Making. The Institute works with academics and neuroscientists to understand better the instinctual triggers that cause us to make our decisions.
He curates a website on the increasing merger between Man and Machine and believes we should rethink what it means to be human. He regularly speaks at conferences.
Leigh Caldwell
Leigh is a behavioural economist and in the mid-2000s was one of the first to apply this scientific field in the commercial world.
He has founded and run several businesses in technology and professional services, and recently condensed his experience in pricing into a new book "The Psychology of Price", published by Crimson in November 2012.
He writes the Pricing Revolution and Knowing and Making blogs, and regularly features as an economics commentator on BBC News, Radio 4, Research Magazine and other media. He is a partner at The Irrational Agency and CEO of Inon.
